Bob Vroom – Vroom’s career record for 25 seasons (1980-2004) was 490-73-25 and ranks second among coaches in the state. Over his career, his Pirates won seven titles in 14 state championship game appearances – 1990, 1995, 1996, 1998, 1999, 2000, and 2002. He also coached the girls’ soccer program from 1994-1999 with a record of 90-33-16 with four conference championships and one State Final appearance. He also coached Swansboro Middle School Boys soccer program from 1988-1993 with a record of 33-4-2. He earned conference Coach of the Year 15 times, Regional Coach of the Year 7 times and State Coach of the Year 3 times. He was named National soccer high school Coach of the Year in 2001. He was inducted into the NC Soccer Hall of Fame in January of 2005.
Bob Sanders – Mr. Sanders just accepted the position of Defensive Line Coach with the Buffalo Bills. Prior to this he served four years with the Green Bay Packers, three as Defensive Coordinator. Previously served as the Linebackers coach for the Miami Dolphins for four years. Sanders enjoyed a 22-year career as a college assistant coach in various positions that included being a part of the University of Florida’s national championship team in 1995. Sanders’ college coaching career included stops at Georgia Tech, Richmond, East Carolina, before joining Steve Spurrier’s staff at Duke and Florida in the mid-1980s. He coach three years in the High School rank’s in Fayetteville. He was a three-sport standout at Jacksonville High School from 1970-1972 and played college football at Davidson.
William Devane - A standout defensive lineman for Jacksonville High School in the 1978-1979 seasons, DeVane was a two year starter in basketball, conference championship in the discus, and conference runner-up in shot put. He was a Shrine Bowl pick, All State selection, and Onslow County Co-Player of the Year following Jacksonville’s 11-1 season in 1979. He was a three year starter at middle guard for Clemson University and rotated with William “The Refrigerator” Perry during Clemson’s National Championship team in 1981. He was a 12th round draft pick in 1984 by the Miami Dolphins. He played briefly for the Buffalo Bills of the National Football League. He has coached high school football, one year at Greene Co and three years at Hart County going undefeated during the regular season. His teams have won four Region 8 AAA titles, and in 1999 were State Runner-ups. He then went 25-17 at Clarke Central High in Ga. from 2002-2005. Overall High School record is 64-28-1. He is currently serving as an Assistant Principal/Coach at Hart County High School in Hartwell, Georgia.
