Economic Impact
| The Jacksonville-Onslow Sports
Commission's primary mission is to create an economic impact through
sporting events in Jacksonville and Onslow County. In order to
determine the economic impact of each event, data is collected from the
event participants themselves in regards to hotel room nights, and size of
traveling party. The information collected from the participants is verified with the hotels and estimates are then made with the data collected. The number of visitors is multiplied by the number of days spent in the area which is multiplied times an average daily spending estimate. No multiplier is used to calculate these economic impacts, only direct spending is taken into account. From the creation of the Jacksonville-Onslow Sports Commission as a private / nonprofit entity through calendar year 2004, the Sports Commission has been responsible for bringing over $2.5 million to Jacksonville and Onslow County. The estimated economic impact from the Jacksonville-Onslow Sports Commission has grown each year and we look to continue that trend.
